The little charming Chameleon Lodge is composed of 10 independently standing private cottage all dotted on the spectacular hill overviewing the scenic Lake Mutanda and beyond the Virunga Volcanoes’ elegant backdrop. This beautiful and luxurious safari lodge boasts of its commanding views from its surrounding.
Chameleon Lodge features spacious communal area with an adjacent wooden deck on top of the hill where guests can enjoy great views of Lake Mutanda and beyond. It is an area where you can socialize with one another while enjoying your meal. This lodge comes with unique décor, the walls are designed with colorful art and in the evening, you can have a romantic fireplace. The facility has cement sofas, armchairs and soft couch that make it such a cozy place.
At Chameleon Hill Lodge, there are 13 cottage rooms. These feature en-suite bathrooms extending across the hillside facing Lake Mutanda. Each of the rooms comes with unique African décor, and the ambience outside sitting area offers remarkable views of the surrounding Virunga volcanoes and the charming islands on Lake Mutanda. The other amenities/facilities include en-suite bathrooms, private garden, wide shower windows, and more.
While at the lodge, morning tea/coffee can be served at the rooms and you enjoy your tea/coffee while also capturing great views of the surrounding. On a single day, there are 3 course meals served in the communal hall in restaurant style.

Location & access
Chameleon Hill Lodge is built on the shores of Lake Mutanda, just between Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi National Park. The lodge isn’t far from Kisoro town, Southwestern Uganda. Getting here is possible by road from Kampala/Entebbe and takes visitors up to 8-9 hours when driving and you may also cross from Rwanda (Kigali) via Katuna or Chanika border, about 4-5 hours’ drive. By air, you can spend a shorter time flying from Entebbe International Airport (EBB) to Kisoro airfield.
Things to do at Chameleon Hill Lodge
Gorilla trekking –while at Chameleon Lodge, you can easily connect to Mgahinga National Park or Bwindi to participate in gorilla trekking adventure. The Southern sectors of Bwindi are the most ideal areas to start your gorilla adventure that is Rushaga and Nkuringo. At Mgahinga, Ntebeko is where you get briefed before setting off on a search for Nyakagezi gorilla group.
Due to the lodge’s strategic location, it is also possible to engage in gorilla habituation experience. Rushaga sector, the Southern region of Bwindi National Park is where this remarkable experience is offered and permits are available for booking at USD 1500 per person.
Golden monkey tracking & habituation experience. At Mgahinga National Park, you also have opportunity to be part of the mesmerizing golden monkey trekking or habituation experience. The normal golden monkey treks involve searching for already habituated golden monkey troops unlike golden monkey habituation where you may embark on a search for a semi-habituated troop.
