This 4 Days (3 Nights) Gorilla Safari takes you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for two adventure activities; gorilla trekking and hiking. Apart from the mountain Gorillas, Mgahinga other striking features are its three extinct volcanic mountains that lie along the border region of Uganda, Congo and Rwanda. The volcanoes’ slopes contain various ecosystems and are biologically diverse, and their peaks provide a striking backdrop to the beautiful scenery in the area.
Trip Itinerary
Day1: Kampala to Kisoro
You will be picked by our company experienced driver guide and set off from Kampala to Kisoro which is about 540 km from Uganda’s Capital city. Stop over for lunch in Mbarara or drive straight to the park. Dinner and lodging at a place of your choice.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
After an early morning breakfast, the guide leads you through the gorilla world, clearing up aspects of their ecosystem and behavior. Gorilla trekking is the most exciting memorable experience, which might take you through a thick tropical rain forest jungle all a day. The gorilla family (Nyakagezi group) consists of 9 members; 3 adult females, 2 silver backs, 2 juveniles and 2 infants. Gorilla Tracking in Mgahinga can take from three to eight hours. We advise that you to wear good trekking shoes suitable for muddy places. Dinner and Overnight at Sawa Sawa Guest House (Basic) / Kisoro Tourist Hotel (Budget) / Kisoro Travelers Rest Hotel (Midrange) / Mount Gahinga Lodge (Luxury).
Day 3; Sabinyo Hiking in Mgahinga
Start the hike to the top of Mount Sabinyo, a Virunga Volcano that you can only access its summit from the park. The summit of the mountain lies at 3,645 meters (11,959 ft), marks the intersection of the borders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda, and Uganda. The slopes of Mt. Sabinyo are a habitat for the critically endangered mountain gorillas.
You will see the rugged nature of the terrain along the Sabinyo slopes that has many craters with sharp ridges. The Mount Sabinyo hike is a one day hike involving 4 hours to the summit and 4 hours back and this depends on the pace and weather conditions. Walking sticks are provided for free meanwhile the porters are available for hire. You will go through vegetation ranges from the bamboo zone between 2400 – 2800m. After ascending to its park, have some rest and your packed lunch. Start descending the mountain. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. DAY 4: Depart to Kampala
After breakfast, travel back to Kampala. Drop off at the hotel or at the Entebbe Airport to catch your flight back home.
